Sophie Palmer Runs Her First Half Marathon For Billy

Sophie is 17 years old and has a 19-year sister, Charlotte, who has Downs Syndrome.

She is studying A-level Biology, Chemistry and Psychology at St John’s School in Leatherhead. She enjoys lots of sports, including running, hockey, cycling, swimming and yoga.

Sophie started running in lockdown but struggled to keep it going as she kept suffering with stitches, and this put her off.

Two years ago, Sophie had scoliosis surgery to correct a severe curve in her back and has slowly started to get back into running. This time, probably because she had to take it slowly, she found she could run more comfortably.

Last year, Sophie took part in her first Parkrun and in September, she ran RunReigate 10k to raise funds for PSDS, Parents Support for children with Down Syndrome.

Sophie looks forward to running her first Half Marathon at Battersea Park to raise money for Billy’s Battalion.
